Cheri L. McCracken serves as Of Counsel with Houk Employment Attorneys, bringing more than four decades of experience in federal and state employment law, litigation, and administrative practice. A third‑generation Arizonan, Cheri earned her law degree from the Arizona State University College of Law and began practicing in 1979. She served as an Attorney Advisor for multiple federal agencies—including the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Information Law and Policy and the Federal Emergency Management Agency—before opening her own practice in the Valley of the Sun in 1984.
Cheri’s career includes extensive work in Title VII, ADA, ADEA, Rehabilitation Act, FMLA, Equal Pay Act, due process, federal employee matters, and other employment‑related actions. She has represented clients through federal and state court litigation, administrative hearings, and agency proceedings, including matters before OWCP, MSPB, ECAB, and the EEOC.
In addition to her deep employment law background, Cheri has handled personal injury, real estate, small business, and juvenile matters over the course of her career. She is known for her meticulous case preparation, commitment to early and strategic settlement negotiation, and her ability to guide clients through complex fact‑intensive litigation.
Cheri has been recognized for excellence throughout her career, holding an AV‑Preeminent rating from Martindale‑Hubbell every year since 2002. She is a longtime leader in professional associations, including serving as President of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and contributing to the Arizona Employment Law Handbook since 1995. She currently serves on the National Employment Lawyers Association’s Ethics and Sanctions Committee.
Cheri has also been a frequent lecturer on employment law, FOIA, privacy, and litigation practice, presenting at federal agencies, the Arizona State Bar, and national legal education programs. Her wide‑ranging experience—from federal policy work to trial‑level advocacy—gives her a unique perspective and deep insight into the challenges facing employees and employers in today’s workplace.
Cheri is admitted to practice in the State of Arizona, the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the Federal Circuit, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She continues to serve the Arizona legal community through mentorship, committee leadership, and advocacy.
