In the course of her career, Marina has fought for civil rights through legal and political advocacy.
As a child, Marina immigrated to the US as a refugee from Bosnia and Herzegovina and went on to graduate from Arizona State University (ASU). She received her JD from ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law with the highest honor distinction for pro bono service. As an ASU student, Marina volunteered with the Human Rights Campaign and Amnesty International, interned with the ACLU and the Arizona Justice Project, participated in ASU’s immigration clinic, and served as Executive Manager of the Law Journal for Social Justice.
Marina previously worked as an immigration law clerk where she represented indigent clients from Central America obtaining a legal pathway to citizenship.
Before joining the Houk Law Firm, Marina explored her political passions by working as a Political Compliance Specialist where she helped elect top Arizona officials. She has been the head of fundraising for a successful Congressional campaign and has also worked as an independent legal contractor a local law firm representing clients with employment and labor matters.
Marina serves on the board of the Welcome to American Project. She loves fashion, travel, and can usually be found at a protest on the weekends.
